The second idea for a music video we had was for Take Me Back by Story Of The Year.
For this song I thought it would be best suited for a narrative and performance based video. For the narrative I thought this song would suit a lost love story, as it would fit the lyrics well. The couple would be the singer with a girl, as this would emphasise the meaning in the lyrics as the singer was singing, as it would connote that he had gone through this experience. The narrative at the start of the song would contain shots of the couple together looking happy, as the song moves on this would change to shots of a fight between the couple followed by the singer looking at photo’s of them together and shots of the girl with another guy with the singer standing to the side of shot or in the corner/shadows of the room to show he feels neglected.
The performance would start of the beginning of the video, where the band is show playing in a garage which is opened and entered by the band before the song starts. They pick up their instruments inside and the songs starts. However throughout the video the location of the band would change to locations that we see in the narrative. For example we might see the couple together at a park but later we would see the band playing in the same park. Some other locations for the band to possibly play which would also be possible locations for parts of the narrative would be: the cinema, the singer’s or girl’s bedroom, in a school, at a party.
There would also be some mixed shots between narrative and performance parts, such as seeing the singer standing alone in a corridor and the camera rotates 180o around him to reveal the band playing behind him. During the guitar solo I thought it would be good to have an increase of pace of the editing, cutting quickly between close ups of the guitarist playing to the girl smiling and laughing.
For an ending shot I thought the singer could set the photos on fire and through them to the floor and the music video ends on a close up of them burning.
