Idea 3 (Our Final Idea) – Dignity – Bullet For My Valentine

For our music video we have decided to use Dignity by Bullet For My Valentine and this is our final idea, which we intend to do for our music video, however we may change things during production depending on difficulty of acquiring some shots but this is our main plan as of now. You can listen to the song below.

We decided that it would be best to do a performance and narrative based video. We brainstormed ideas for this and we thought that we should have a narrative that links into the lyrics. So we plan to do a narrative about an army veteran who is burning and destroying documents of war crimes he has committed. We will include shots of him looking through such documents and throwing them into a fire, as well as flashback shots of him during a war, torturing and killing people. We will also have a secret agent coming to arrest the soldier but then having soldier kill himself at the end of the video which we think fits in well with the lyrics in the chorus “Don’t push me cause I wont come quietly, I’d rather die with dignity”. At the beginning of the song we will have shots of someone pouring petrol around which the actor then flicks a match into to set alight, at this point the shot changes to a crane shot looking down to reveal the flames burning in the letters of BFMV to represent the band’s initials. Hopefully we will use slow motion shots for the match falling and maybe for other shots in the video.

For the performance we will have the band playing in two different locations. The first of which would be inside a large warehouse or barn where the majority of the song is played. This location could also be the same location where we see the torturing happening in the narrative flashbacks. We will use a variety of different shots of the bands performance to make sure our music video is interesting to watch. The second location we would use is in the middle of an airstrip and the band would be seen playing here after the guitar solo. We thought it would be good to add a change of location for the band to keep the audience interested and we decided that and airfield would create strong visual impact in a music video.

Below are the pictures of our original brainstorming of all our ideas.

  1. Try to keep your narrative simple, remember that you only have 4 1/2 mins to include teh story and performance aspects. I like the idea of the Army Vet destroying his past and teh use of flashback but to include a 'Secret Agent' might be making it too complex. You will need to keep the flash back simple - this could be a good time to use montage which can be more effective that a mini scene.
Do you have access to an airstrip?
    BE CAREFUL WITH FIRE!!!!!
